The Hamilton, Washington D.C.

Brand Strategy • Creative Design • Web Development • Public Relations • Social Media

Alexander Hamilton taught himself to read and write, led an artillery brigade during the American Revolution, was the only New Yorker to sign the Constitution, created our nation’s banking system, and died in a duel at the age of 47. (Makes you think twice about binge watching Netflix, doesn’t it?)

Named after such a prolific Founding Father, The Hamilton is an upscale hotel located at 14th and K Street at the heart of Washington, D.C. Braintrust was tasked to be the full-service agency partner of the property with the goal to redefine and re-energize The Hamilton brand and reintroduce it to the market.

Brand Strategy

Seeking a brand positioning that would be emblematic of the spirit of Alexander Hamilton while connecting with the modern traveler, BRAINTRUST worked with the property to develop the platform of #MakeYourOwnHistory.

A phrase that resonates with business travelers or those on vacation, the positioning is robust and unique and serves as a rallying cry to inspire visitors to live for the moment and make their stay at The Hamilton an epic one.

The Hamilton voice is sophisticated and cultured yet playful with tones of youthfulness and wittiness. It is never sarcastic or disrespectful, but possesses a whimsy that is accessible, endearing and appealing to a wide audience. At times the voice is aspirational as we encourage our guests to be inspired by history, but also make their own. #MakeYourOwnHistory

Renovation Project Complete at D.C.’s Hamilton Hotel

The design was chosen with founding father Alexander Hamilton in mind. The original ceiling with 14-karat gold features still decorates the lobby, and original artwork and maps of local points of interest are hung throughout the property.

Leveraging the exciting offerings of 14K, and The Hamilton’s recently renovated meeting facilities, BRAINTRUST secured more than 1-billion media impressions in its first 18-months. Coverage was secured in high profile national media outlets such as USA Today and Meeting & Conventions Magazine, and important local media outlets such as the Washington Post and Eater DC.
